New York Yankees Summer Camp to be held in the Bronx
Bronx, NY---As spring has arrived, summer will be sure to soon follow. The thoughts of most children are starting to focus on outdoor activities during summer vacation including trips with family members and attending summer camps. A major summer sports activity for children in the Bronx is playing baseball like New York Yankees idols such as Derek Jeter, who is about to begin his final season in MLB.
A special one week sports camp that centers on the sport of baseball is the New York Yankees Summer Camp. The schedule for the 2014 summer camps associated with the Yankees has already been set up. There will be 14 camps located in the metropolitan area including the Bronx.
The camps are daytime activities that run from 9 am through 3 pm for five consecutive days for boys and girls from the ages of 5-13. Arrangements can be made for children to be supervised before and after the official camp hours, 7:30-9:00 am and 3:00 -6:00 pm. The children are given a complete New York Yankees uniform on the first day of camp, which they are expected to wear on the subsequent days. The cost of the five day camp is $559.
On one day of the week, the campers will have access to a tour of Yankee stadium and have the opportunity to meet one of the players on the 2014 roster. President of the Yankees Summer Camps Brendan Sullivan commented, “The exclusive access we offer to Yankee Stadium makes our program a lasting memory for all children who attend.”
In an era in which bullying of children has become an unfortunate reality, the camp directors are sensitive to divide the campers into separate age and ability groupings, so that the children are always safe and comfortable.
Childhood obesity is another common present-day problem that is recognized by the NYYSC. Sponsorship by the American Dairy Council and the Dairy Council’s “Refuel with Chocolate Milk” aids the goal of proper nutrition for children.
Rick Naczi, ADA CEO, explained the organization’s role at the camps, “One component of sports training that has a big impact on performance, yet is often overlooked, is nutrition. Teaming up with the Yankees to sponsor summer camps gives the Dairy Association a great opportunity to reach youth with important information about the role low fat chocolate milk plays in the body’s ability to recover after training.”
A camp will be held at Mount Saint Michael Academy from June 30-July 3. Sullivan spoke of the facility, “It is important for us to hold a week of Yankees Sumer Camp in the Bronx and we are thrilled to once again partner with Mount Saint Michael Academy. The school provides us with great facilities that allow us to deliver a major league experience to all the young ballplayers in attendance.” The Bronx camp, because of the July 4 observance will be held only four days and the cost will be $465.
