Fordham Men’s Basketball Releases 2014-2015 Non-Conference Schedule

Rams to host seven non-conference games in Rose Hill Gym

Bronx, N.Y.  The 2014-2015 Fordham University men's basketball non-conference schedule was released today and it features a contest at New York City's Most Famous Arena (Madison Square Garden) and one at the Barclays Center as well as two against Big 10 opponents and will also feature seven home games in the historic Rose Hill Gym.

The Rams open the 2014-2015 season, Fordham’s 112th varsity season, on Friday night, November 14, as they host the New York Institute of Technology in the Rose Hill Gym. It will be the first ever  meeting between the two schools.

Fordham then takes to the road for back-to-back games against schools from the Big 10, starting with a trip to Happy Valley to face Penn State on Sunday, November 16. It will be the fourth meeting between the Rams and the Nittany Lions, the first since 1973.

The Rams then travel down to College Park to take on the newest member of the Big 10, the University of Maryland, on Thursday, November 20. The Rams and Terrapins will meet for the tenth time, the first since Fordham ventured down to Maryland in 2006.

Fordham returns home to begin a four-game homestand, beginning with a contest with UMass Lowell on Sunday, November 29. The Rams and the River Hawks, a member of the America East Conference, meet for the first time.

Maryland Eastern Shore pays a visit to the Rose Hill Gym on Saturday, November 29, in the first ever meeting between the two schools. The Hawks are a member of the Mideastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).

On Monday, December 1, the Siena College Saints come to the Bronx for a game with the Rams in the Rose Hill Gym. It will be the fourth straight year the Saints and Rams have squared off and the 23rd time overall. Fordham leads the all-time series, 12-10.

Fordham closes out the homestand by hosting Monmouth University on Wednesday, December 10. The game will be the third straight for the Rams and Hawks and the sixth in the overall series which is led by Fordham, 3-2.

The Rams head into Manhattan on Saturday, December 13, as they square off with St. John's University in the annual Holiday Festival at Madison Square Garden. It will be the fourth straight year that Fordham has appeared in the festival and it will be the Rams’ 117th appearance at Madison Square Garden.

The annual Battle of the Bronx will occur on Monday, December 22, but the game will feature an unusual twist, it won’t be played in the Bronx. Fordham and Manhattan will square off in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn as part of the BROOKLYN HOOPS™ Holiday Invitational. The invitational will also feature a game between Providence and Miami. It will be the 107th meeting between the Rams and the Jaspers, the most for any Fordham opponent.

The non-conference slate closes out with a pair of home games for the Rams as they host Howard University on Sunday, December 28, and South Carolina State on Wednesday, December 31. It will be the second meeting between the Rams and the Bison, Fordham won last year’s matchup, and the first ever between the Rams and the Bulldogs and the first meeting for the Rams against a team from the Palmetto state since Fordham played Clemson in 1987.

The Fordham men's Atlantic 10 schedule will consist of 18 games this year, nine home and nine away, with the Rams facing five opponents in a home-and-home series. Head coach Tom Pecora's squad will face Dayton, La Salle, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Saint Joseph's twice during the 2014-2015 season.

In addition to the home games with Dayton, La Salle, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Saint Joseph's, the Rams will host Duquesne, George Washington, Saint Louis and VCU. Besides the return trips to Dayton, La Salle, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Saint Joseph's, the Fordham men will also play at A-10 newcomers Davidson (the first meeting between the two teams since 1966), George Mason, Richmond and St. Bonaventure.

Conference play will begin in early January and conclude the weekend prior to the 2015 Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championship, which will be played March 11-15, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

On the court, head coach Pecora’s Rams will be led by sophomore guard Jon Severe, the Metropolitan Basketball Writer’s Rookie of the Year last year, who set the Fordham freshman scoring record with 536 points. He was second on the squad in 2013-14, averaging 17.3 ppg, fourth best in the Atlantic 10, and he led the Rams and was third in the conference with 79 three-pointers made.

Also back are junior guard Mandell Thomas (11.9 ppg, 4.2 rpg) and senior guard Bryan Smith (7.3 ppg, 4.3 rpg) who will be joined by a group of talented newcomers.
